To perform this job successfully, an individual should have positive demonstration of leadership skills, effective communication techniques, successful interpersonal relations, and increased acceptance of responsibility. Minimum two (2) years unit specific clinical experience and/or approval of the Unit Director.  Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.  Must have and maintain current BLS Card. Must have and maintain ACLS  and PALS Cards or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department. Six (6) month time frame is at the discretion of the Department Director. A national certification will be identified and the time frame to complete the certification will be approved by the respective Leadership within 90 days of accepting the position.
 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Ability to calculate figures and medication dosages and solutions calculations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be knowledgeable in basic computer skills.
 
Under the general direction of the Unit Director/Clinical Manager, the R.N. Charge Nurse independently provides holistic, individualized care using the nursing process for patients routinely seen on the unit.  Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, Nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care.  Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills.  Contributes to the Sierra View District Medical Center's Patient Care Services and the Nursing profession in a positive manner.
 
Is responsible for the coordination of quality patient care through the implementation of the Nursing process on a shift basis.  Specific areas of responsibility include, but may not be limited to:  serving as a resource person, role model, mentor, assuring therapies and treatments are given as ordered, immediate oversight of staff assigned to that unit, assisting in staff development, and direct communication with the Clinical Managers and Department Director of the unit as well as Administration as appropriate. 
 
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours which may include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call in the Director's absence. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours.

The employee must work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate a cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors from all departments of the Hospital and government agency employees.
